US Kids – The US Kids Golf World Championships, also known as “Jr Worlds”, is a premier junior golf event played at Pinehurst each year. To qualify for this event, junior golfers will need to play and win at the local and regional levels. US Kids Golf also has a slew of local junior tournaments where parents participate as caddies, making for a more inviting and tamer environment.
AJGA – American Junior Golf Association. This is the tour that every parent wants their child to play on! The cream of the proverbial crop play at these events. Big name golfers, like Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Inbee Park, and Morgan Pressel have all successfully played and won on the AJGA Tour. Membership is expensive, the competition is extremely fierce, and the tour stops are spread out across the United States. But if your child has what it takes to play golf at the next level, AJGA is a MUST!
Hurricane Junior Tour – HJGT is a great “stepping stone” tour. The level of play on this tour far exceeds that of the local PGA junior tours, but is not as strong as the more established tours like the AJGA. If you live in a large metropolitan area and your junior golfer is a 5-15 handicapper, this tour is for them. There are usually two to three HJGT events played nearby each metro area every season. If traveling is not a deal breaker, the level of competition gets much stronger the further south and west you travel to play.
