The Mid Atlantic PGA Jr Tour (MAPGA) is a great organization that accommodates junior golfers of all levels. Their tournaments are played mainly during the in-season months (June-August). Expect to pay around $110.00 for membership and, depending on age, anywhere from $35.00 – $65.00 per tournament registration. The MAPGA Jr Tour tournaments have smaller fields and are generally for intermediate junior golfers looking for a chance to play in a competitive environment. I like to call organizations like this “gateway tours”, mainly because they offer players the opportunity to qualify for larger tournaments or a spot on a more competitive tour like AJGA, FCWT, or IJGT. Opportunities like these can be very beneficial for advanced high school golfers that are interested in possibly playing collegiate golf.
The VSGA hosts junior events throughout the year. Their events are mostly one-day events and are not extremely competitive, but there are a few VSGA junior events during the season that are multi-day and have a much stronger field. Most of the VSGA events are played in central and northern Virginia, so if you live in the south you might be doing some extra driving to make it to these tournaments.
